72 years of service for city branch of women’s council

Women from across south-west Victoria have joined forces to celebrate a local service organisation in its 72nd year of community service.
The Geelong branch of the National Council of Women Victoria hosted its annual luncheon at Grovedale’s Lyndon Grove Receptions on Tuesday.
Geelong Regional Libraries chief Patti Manolois was guest speaker, fresh from her recent addition to the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll.
The Geelong branch’s Janice Lathan described the women’s council as a “forum comprising representatives of all service clubs in the region and individual members”.
The branch held meetings to raise and discuss issues affecting the welfare of women and children, Ms Latham said.
“Where appropriate, our deliberations are forwarded by way of submissions to government both state and federal.
“The council is a non-party political, non-sectarian, not-for-profit umbrella organisation with broadly humanitarian and educational objectives.”
Most of the Geelong branch members were local women who worked “so diligently in a voluntary capacity for our community”, Ms Latham said.
