New technology will capture passenger “information” at taxi ranks in Geelong, according to MP David Koch.
The Member for Western Victoria said the portable technology would allow taxi rank marshals to enhance safety at the ranks in the city centre.
The marshals would also be able to electronically document taxi information, he said.
State Government has granted Geelong $30,000 to introduce the technology.
Mr Koch said the funding would build on $17,000 for taxi rank surveillance cameras three years ago.
Liberal candidate for Geelong Paula Kontelj welcomed the initiative.
The funding would go “a long way to improving community infrastructure,” she said.
