Independent, Star Trader offer free classies deal

Advertising in the Independent’s classified pages now earns customers free ads in an exciting new publication appearing at selected newsagents from this Friday.
Star Trader will circulate around Geelong and Melbourne with hundreds of bargain goods for sale each week.
The paper brings together the classifieds advertising of 21 newspaper mastheads operating under the Independent’s Victorian family-owned parent company, Star News Group.
With a cover price of $1.50, the first paper will offer everything from second-hand furniture and sport equipment through to cars and fashion items.
Customers can advertise in the Independent then elect to have their ad appear for free in Star Trader.
Alternatively, free advertising is available for customers who choose to advertise only in Star Trader.
The new paper fills a niche left by the demise of the Trading Post’s print version last year.
Independent managing editor Tony Galpin said classifieds advertisers would be the winners.
“This is the low-cost, if not free, alternative to reaching a mass market,” Mr Galpin said.
“Why pay exorbitant prices for limited exposure when the Independent and Star Trader can put your goods-for-sale in 117,000 newspapers circulating around Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast and Melbourne?”
To advertise in the Independent, Star Trader or both, phone 1300 858 178.
More information about rates and conditions are available in the Independent’s classifieds section.
