‘Rare treat’ of angelic voices

Some of Australia’s finest choristers will present a “rare treat” at Geelong’s St Mary’s Basilica of the Angels next month, according to the show’s promoter.
The Australian Boys Choir will perform alongside The Vocal Consort to deliver four English Mass settings in Byre to Britten: English Liturgical Masterworks.
Regarded as Australia’s leading male voice ensemble, The Vocal Consort comprises male vocalists who mostly developed their skills with the renowned boys choir.
Music at the Basilica’s Jane Bashiruddin said the Consort would perform the Thomas Tallis’ “rarely heard” Mass for Four Voices, while the boys choir would present Missa Brevis in D with Michael Fulcher on organ.
Both groups would then join forces for two more Masses by English composers William Byrd and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
“It is a rare treat to hear them perform this way in Australia,” Bashiruddin said.
This is an excellent opportunity for our young budding choristers to hear an excellent young choir. Admission is free to children and all school students and we would encourage you to bring your youngsters to this concert.”
Established in 1939, the Australian Boys Choir has performed around the world and worked with various international conductors and orchestras. The Vocal Consort formed in 1984 to complement the choir, going on to earn international critical acclaim for its “smooth, seamless” performances.
The basilica show begins 3pm on 9 October, with tickets available at the door or through trybooking.com.
