Pickett picks a winner

By Josip Zilic

A grounded approach to life, enjoyment of a challenge and determination to get the best out of herself are hallmarks of Galaxy United’s Caitlin Pickett.
After excelling in junior football, the Sacred Heart College student from Ocean Grove made a mark for herself with Galaxy in the inaugural year of Women’s NPL competition.
After her promotion from the Under-18 side to the seniors, Pickett topped her season with a goal in the grand final.
The 16-year-old found her feet through indoor football, working under Ocean Grove legend Brian Burgess before turning to the outdoor form with Surfside Waves.
After a few years in junior ranks she earned a spot with state league division three side Surf Coast before joining division one’s North Geelong Warriors.
She also represented Victoria in National Schools Championships earlier this month and has won selection all-Australian for a tour of the UK early next year.
Pickett has begun fund-raising to pay her way on on the non-sponsored tour, with a page at gofundme.com/caitlinp.
