Local surfer in first time win

UP AND coming Jan Juc surfer India Robinson took out the 2015 Maxum World Surf League Women’s Pro Junior at North Cronulla Beach on Sunday.
Robinson snared the win in her first ever Women’s Pro Junior event.
The event also doubled as the final stop on the 2015 Women’s Australasian Junior Qualifying Series. Robinson battled it out with Lucy Callister of Palm Beach, Queensland, in tricky one foot waves.
In a relatively slow final, Robinson managed to throw down a series of giant turns to post a respectable 10.75 heat total (out of a possible 20 points).
She sheeted home the win in the dying minutes of the exchange.
“This is my first ever Pro Junior event, so to take it out is super exciting and surreal,” Robinson said. “Coming up from Victoria, I was really just looking for the experience, but to take it out is so much better.
“I really just wanted to do as well as I could. This boosts my confidence going into next year’s Junior Series. Hopefully, I may be able to take out a few more.”
Callister held down the lead for the majority of the 25-minute affair, with a handful of small scores, but was forced to relinquish her lead after Robinson posted a pair of five-point rides.
When the final hooter sounded, Callister was left requiring a 6.25 wave score to take the win.
“I’m pretty disappointed to not win, especially since it was so close,” Callister said.
“The surf was really difficult, so I just tried to stay as busy as I could. Congrats to India though, she surfed great.”
