Some might have detected the hypocricy in Ford’s tanty this week about the Abbott Government’s plan for private auto purchases.
The Blue Oval was mighty unimpressed with the threat that individual Aussies might soon be able to import their own own cars from overseas.
What? The little guy able to access a better deal overseas? Ourtrageous!
But that’s Ford, the same company that will stop making cars in Australia next year – and import the lot.
What’s good for the goose…
Liberal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson (pictured) was among a swag of federal government MPs who could have lost their seats had an election been held on Saturday.
As many as 36 seats Liberal or National Party MPs would have fallen on the back of a uniform 7.5 per cent swing, according to the latest Fairfax-Ipsos poll.
The 36 seats represent 15 more than the 21 Labor would need to form government.
Luckily for Ms Henderson, the poll that counts is still more than a year away.
Ms Henderson was also on the wrong end of a little ire over irony this week.
A number of Indy readers expressed frustration with the forum she had arranged with state counterpart Andrew Katos to discuss recent changes to public transport in Geelong.
The opportunity to vent was welcomed but, as many pointed out, public transport users would obviously struggle to attend the event at far-flung Grovedale on a Tuesday night without adequate public transport.
At least the location doesn’t inconvenience the MPs – it’s in both their electorates and within a short drive of their homes.
JOGGERS and walkers on their early morning exercise regimes are on a collision course with weight-swinging, keep-fit junkies on the footpaths of Eastern Beach.
The popular waterfront venue has been the scene of several close calls, with joggers forced into body swerves to avoid the kettle-drum enthusiasts.
It’s an issue likely to be brought to the attention of council, with local exercise clubs lobbying for a code of conduct for the fitness operators.
