Star Search calls for young talents

ENTRY: Noah Gray tickles the ivories in preparation for Star Search.

A talent quest that has uncovered some of Geelong’s greatest stars will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year.
Musicians like pop singer Missy Higgins and international opera performer Cheryl Barker rose to prominence with victories at Star Search.
The Rotary Club of Highton event for young performers has seen this year’s entries open with instrumental and vocalist categories.
Torquay’s Noah Gray, 14, plans to test his talents against the cream of his local musical contemporaries in the vocal category.
Noah, who is studying on a scholarship at The Geelong College, achieved A-plus marks in contemporary singing last year.
“I was the only person in Geelong and surrounding areas to receive this grade for this level, so it was an achievement for me,” he said.
“I am also Pegasus House music captain … so I help organise music events for my house and school.
Star Search will host vocal auditions on 4 May. Instrumental auditions will be on 11 May before the finals performance on 3 June.
Organisers said more information and entry details were available at the competition website, starsearch.net.au.
Prospective entrants could also follow the event on Facebook or email any questions to enquire@starsearch.net.au.
Tickets for the finals are available by searching Highton Rotary Star Search at trybooking .com.
