Camp-out to commemorate Anzacs

North Geelong Secondary College students are preparing swags and sleeping bags to participate in the nation’s largest sleepover to commemorate the nation’s fallen diggers.
They will join thousands of other Victorian secondary students at Camp Gallipoli in Melbourne on Sunday night ahead of Monday’s Anzac Day commemorations.
“I’m really looking forward to Camp Gallipoli, I think it will be a really interesting event,” said North Geelong student Olivia Everingham, 16.
“I hope I learn more about what it was like during WWI while having a fun time with my friends.
“I think it’s really important to honour the fallen soldiers who put their lives on the line to help our country and their families who lost loved ones.”
Organisers said the not-for-profit camp at Melbourne Showgrounds would include remembrance activities and entertainment, including a performance by Geelong musician Taylor Henderson.
Other Camp Galipoli events would be held simultaneously in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney, they said.
The organisers expected more than 30,000 students from over 200 schools to attend the camps.
