Neighbour ”threat” to kill wife and children

A Corio man threatened to kill his neighbours and their two small children, a Geelong court heard yesterday.
Kylie Emond told Geelong Magistrates’ Court Brett Fridey, formerly of 6 Kosciuszko Avenue, Corio, threatened to kill her and her seven and fiveyearold children in October.
But Fridey’s defence argued Ms Emond had “fabricated” the events and that her husband had threatened Fridey with a whippersnipper.
Fridey was in court on charges of threatening to kill and breaching an intervention order.
Ms Emond alleged Fridey was “ranting and raving” as she reversed from her driveway on October 25.
He yelled “and you, you fat slut, you’re next” while making a slicing action across his throat, the court heard.
Ms Emond testified she had not clashed with Fridey before the incident.
She said Fridey often yelled abuse for no apparent reason.
Ms Emond told the court her son, 7, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car and her daughter, 5, was in the back seat when Fridey approached.
He threatened “I’m going to get you, I’m going to get all of you” and repeated the slicing motion across his throat, she alleged.
Ms Emond said the incident traumatised her children. Her son was unable to sleep at home because he believed the nextdoor neighbour would kill him.
Ms Emond told the court that a week later Fridey spat over top of the fence, nearly hitting her with a “large glob” of saliva.
She alleged Fridey yelled “I hope that landed on you”.
The court heard Fridey approached Ms Emond to repeat his threats after the spit.
Ms Emond’s husband, Leigh, said he was also threatened while arguing with Fridey after returning home later in the day.
“I asked him why he was threatening my family. Nothing physical happened,” Mr Emond told the court.
The case was continuing when the Independent went to press yesterday.
