Bomb Squad assesses “suspicious parcel” at Grovedale street

By ALANA MITCHELSON

A suspicious parcel was set alight beneath a van in Grovedale overnight on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to Birrilee Court in response to the fire and found an unknown object under a small van at about 3.30am Thursday.
The area was cordoned off and the Bomb Response Unit attended the scene with uniform police to perform a safety check.
Residents in Birrilee Court woke up to text message alerts sent from Victoria Police from about 5am Thursday morning, asking them to remain in doors.
No one was injured.
Police reassured residents in the surrounding area that the incident was confined to the court only and unless personally informed about the incident, they will not be affected by the police activity.
