Man charged after bomb scare

Police have charged a 25-year-old man following a bomb scare in Lara on Thursday.

Armed crime detectives were executing a search warrant in Mark Street, Lara around midday.

While inside the property they discovered what appeared to be an improvised explosive device.

Police called in the Bomb Response Unit, which seized the item after arriving at the scene.

Police also seized other items including included a firearm and ammunition, as well as what they believed to be stolen property and quantities of GVM and ecstasy.

They arrested a 25-year-old Lara man at the scene.

Police have since charged him with possessing an explosive device, as well as a range of firearms and drug-related offences.

The Lara man is scheduled to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court today.
