Driver hits cop with stolen car at scene of fatal car crash

A stolen vehicle hit a police officer investigating a fatal crash at Leopold on Tuesday night.
A 31-year-old Leopold man died in the crash and the officer sustained a lower-leg injury in the hit-run, Victoria Police said.
Police believe the dead man lost control of his vehicle before it left the Bellarine Highway near the intersection of Brinsmead Lane and hit a tree at 11.15pm.
“The driver, who was the single occupant, died at the scene,” Victoria Police said.
“While police were cordoning off the road a stolen vehicle drove through the crash site and struck a police member on the lower leg.
“The stolen car, a 2000 gold Honda CRV wagon, registered 1ET-4Y0 failed to stop at the scene and is still missing.
“The police member sustained a minor injury to his lower leg and received medical treatment at the scene
“Police do not believe the stolen vehicle was connected to the fatal collision.”
Victoria Police urged anyone with information about to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
