Man rescued from Clifton Springs house fire ‘assaulted first’

A critically injured man pulled from a Clifton Springs house fire might have been assaulted first, according to police.
Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident after police responded to a fire at the man’s home just before midnight.
Emergency services attended the Bunganowee Drve property, where fire-fighters rescued the man.
He was transported to a Melbourne hospital.
Victoria Police said detectives investigating the incident believed the man suffered assault injures as well as burns from the fire.
Police who attended the fire arrested a 45-year-old man nearby. Police said he was assisting with the enquiries.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to submit a confidential crime report at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
