A Barwon Health volunteer who dedicates more than 30 hours a week to Geelong’s McKellar Centre has been acknowledged with a statewide award.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews presented Cor Horsten with his 2010 volunteer award during a special presentation at Parliament House last week.
Mr Andrews praised the volunteer for his “outstanding” commitment.
Mr Horsten has volunteered 33 hours a week for the past nine years to running a woodwork class for residents at the centre for aged care and rehabilitation patients.
Mr Andrews hailed Mr Horsten as an “unsung hero”.
“Cor’s ongoing commitment to the community is outstanding in terms of his years of service, the care and compassion he continually displays and his incomparable enthusiasm to be involved and lead by example,” Mr Andrews said.
Cor, now that’s a well-earned award
