Federal Member for Corio Gavan O’Connor has unveiled an ambitious plan to drastically reduce carbon emissions in the Geelong region.
Mr O’Connor plans to bring together scientists and industry leaders to audit the region’s carbon footprint before determining an action plan to reduce emissions.
“As one of the nation’s premier provincial centres and a manufacturing powerhouse, Geelong has a particular responsibility to lead in reducing emissions,” Mr O’Connor said.
“There is significant opportunities are Geelong’s immediate hinterland to create carbon sinks and to offset the emissions footprint of our major manufacturing industries.”
