Artist’s beauty writ large on wall of Powerhouse hub

By NOEL MURPHY

“SHE wasn’t hiding from anything as all else had thought, she simply needed to escape. Escape the torment of the confines of her soul, her very being, everything that meant something to her, deep down where most fear to tread.
“She lay. Softly. Still. The water surrounding her wasn’t covering her, it was embracing.
“The waves being arms of comfort, and the current a heartbeat. Constantly moving, carressing her entire being.
“She could only dream of such love, such perfection, such freedom, within herself, by herself. As the outside world was not at an intellectual level to understand.”

So says artist Mark Taylor of CLAP – Meataxe Design, who recently completed a multi-storey masterpiece at North Geelong art hub Powerhouse, which has transformed a disused fomer power station.
The job took him 17 days of sunrise-to-sunset toil after Powerhouse operator Ian Ballis persuaded him to paint the image.
“I wanted to paint a female with beauty and heart in it. I enjoyed every minute,“ Mr Taylor said.
“It’s been such an honour and pleasure in every way to have the chance to be part of such a great piece of history.”
