GEELONG’S taxi boss has slammed a decision to provide separate Bellarine Peninsula taxis.
Geelong Taxi Network chief executive officer Peter Valentine said splitting city and peninsula taxis would fail to improve service.
“In the past (the network) has struggled to fulfil requirements on the Bellarine because Bellarine Peninsula Taxis hasn’t had sufficient cars on the road,” Mr Valentine said.
“How will another network fix this problem?”
Victorian Taxi Directorate has announced nine dedicated peninsula cabs and 24 drivers will operate out of Drysdale from September.
Mr Valentine said Geelong and Bellarine services merged four years ago to “improve efficiencies”.
Bellarine Peninsula Taxis director Alan Fry promised “higher customer satisfaction”.
Peninsula services were understaffed under the existing arrangement, he said.
“The move reflects the dissatisfaction of the travelling public, drivers and operators in greater Geelong,” he said.
