Enterprise boss unveiled

A Geelong man with an international career in scientific research, industry and government has been appointed to the position of Executive Director of Enterprise Geelong.

Dr Russell Walker’s 20 year career has encompassed research, investment attraction and strategic advisory positions across  Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Cr Keith Fagg said Dr Walker brought considerable experience and skills to the role.

“Russell has demonstrated experience in attracting investment and establishing new enterprises across many business sectors.

“Most recently he has had success in the commercialisation of research which accords with our vision to expand Geelong’s advanced manufacturing and research capability,” he said.

“His background is such that he has a well-developed network of contacts in government and industry at international, national and local level.

“Russell has proven success in brokering major investment deals and leading major projects.

“He understands business and the absolute focus of Enterprise Geelong to drive employment opportunities for our people and encourage business investment.”

Dr Walker has held senior roles at the North Carolina Centre for Nanoscale Materials and Ireland’s National Microelectronics Research Centre.

He has worked as a consultant to Singapore’s Gintic Institute of Manufacturing Technology and the United States Office of Naval Research.

Dr Walker was a Senior Program Advisor at the Victorian Government’s Department of Innovation Industry and Regional Development and most recently has served as Director of Strategic Partnerships at Deakin University.

During his five years at Deakin University Dr Walker was successful in achieving direct investment in Geelong of more than $160 million.
