Opera singer’s community choir one out of the Box

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

THE RANGE from opera to The Beatles is wide but Geelong music teacher and performer Lisa Breen is determined to fill the gap.
Ms Breen is starting a new community choir, Vox Box, with the aim of attracting as many voices as possible.
The former member of state and national opera companies wants to bring fun and passion to community chorales.
“Vox Box will cater for all ages, from eight to 80, singing all kinds of music, from early music to operetta, music theatre, jazz and even contemporary and the odd pop song,” she said.
“The aim is to cater for all ages and abilities and to create a fun but high-quality forum for people to really enjoy using their voices.
“It will be a non-threatening atmosphere of learning and getting true joy out of being passionate about singing.”
Ms Breen said Vox Box would seek performance opportunities at community events and festivals while also hosting an end-of-year concert.
Prospective choir members could attend an information night from 7.30 pm on 13 July at the Scarecrow Patch, Thomas St, Ceres, or phone Ms Breen on 0413 480 182, she said.
