In Brief: Vandals, Bannockburn, Cotton On

Vandal ‘idiots’
“Idiots” have vandalised signalling equipment on Geelong’s rail line, according to V/Line’s chief executive.
Tehor Taifalos said the vandals cut signal cables near Little River on Sunday, delaying eight trains and risking their own lives.

Mean quote
A quote from a Lindsay Lohan movie has stirred a social media backlash against Geelong fashion retailer Cotton On.
The company withdrew products emblazoned with the Mean Girls line ‘You can’t sit with us’ after claims the quote’s use promoted bullying.

Bannockburn battle
A medieval battle re-enactment will entertain patrons of Bannockburn’s biggest annual event this weekend.
Battle of Bannockburn organisers said festivities would begin “with a bang” at 9.30pm Sunday before the re-enactment of the event’s 700-year-old namesake at 12.30pm on the town’s golf course.

Cup visit
The Melbourne Cup will visit Geelong so racing fans can get up close and personal with the sport’s greatest Australian trophy.
Victoria Racing Club this week announced the $175,000, 18-carat gold cup would be on display at National Wool Museum on 25 October as part of a 34-stop pre-race tour of Australia.

St Joseph’s College’s Jake Cobb, Oberon High School’s Christopher Pedersen and Sacred Heart College’s Sophie Kramer were among 500 students to receive an Australian Vocational Student Prize.
