Free books put Myers project streets ahead

A “public-use bookshelf” will offer free reading material as part of streetscape works in central Geelong.
Geelong’s council said the weather-proof bookshelf on Myers St would stock disused books from Geelong library.
“The idea is that those visiting the hospital or waiting for appointments can borrow a book, have a seat and read in the sunshine,” a council spokesperson said.
Acting mayor Bruce Harwood considered the $1.6 million streetscape project, with funding from council and State Government, was a “logical step” to complement St John of God Hospital’s $65 million redevelopment on Myers St.
“St John of God has invested heavily in world-class health services for our city. These streetscape works will complement the new-look hospital and improve access to it.
“Next we’ll be setting our sites on Geelong Hospital.”
