Junior National Champion and Jan Juc local Todd Rosewall will be represent Australia next week at World Junior Surfing Championships in Portugal.
The only Victorian on the team, Rosewall will join 11 other Australians to take on 15 other nations, including strong American, Brazilian and South African squads, to defend Australia’s victory at last year’s championships.
Rosewall, 16, will vie for the under16 title.
He said he was feeling calm about his first international event.
“Hopefully it will go really good but I don’t really know what to expect,” Rosewall.
“I know how the kids on the Australian team surf, so I’ll just have to get there and see how these other guys go.”
“There will be a lot more kids there. You could get some random kid from somewhere you have never heard of who could be really good, so I just don’t know.”
Rosewall will have his second international event in July when he travels to France for a King of the Groms competition.
The Geelong College year 11 student said he was looking forward to surfing outside Australia.
“I’ve been surfing in Bali before but Europe looks like it would be cool.”
The 2007 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships will run at Costa de Caparica, Portugal, from May 4 to May 11.
