PORTARLINGTON is on its way to becoming plastic bag-free, according to campaign organisers.
Portarlington Primary School grade five and six students this week put on display posters highlighting environmental concerns about the bags.
Port Art Network’s Jenny Macaulay said the posters would go on display around the town to spread the message.
“They’ll be little reminders for people to look after our beaches.”
Staying in Portarlington’s Jenny Wills said the campaign also included screening of a documentary about the impact of plastic bags.
The group was pleased the community was getting on board.
“Because we’re a marine township our litter’s effect on the environment is very marked. There need to be options for people and we want to make sure plastic is not the first option.”
