ALP rorts allegations referred to police

OPPOSITION leader Matthew Guy will ask police to investigate allegations of ALP rorting of parliamentary allowances.
Lara MP and sports minister John Eren was challenged on the alleged rorts, with the opposition raising the issue in parliament this week.
“Today I’ll be sending a letter to the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police asking him to investigate if there have been any crimes committed, if there’s been any laws broken in relation to this whole issue around the rorting of parliamentary allowances, possibly by the Labor Party here in Victoria,” Mr Guy said.
“This issue is now a matter that needs to be looked at by the Victoria Police and if we see any further examples of Ministers or indeed other MPs implicated in the weeks to come, I think it’s going to be time soon that Daniel Andrews starts to stand people down.
“This matter is gathering pace as we see every day. This matter has come to light from those in the Labor Party.
“This is not a matter that has been found by the Opposition, by the media or by others. It has been found by those within Labor.
“When you see whistleblowers from within an organisation come forward and say that the Labor Party itself has been in their eyes, breaking the law, then it does need to be a matter for Victoria Police.”
In Parliament yesterday, Mr Guy asked Mr Eren if he signed casual employment forms for staff who did not work in his electorate office but instead were campaign staff working in the Bellarine electorate?
Mr Eren replied: “I reject the premise of the question. It is totally inaccurate.
“The employment of our staff is not the responsibility of the electorate officers but in fact the responsibility of the presiding officers, and so the premise of the question is wrong.
“We have followed the rules.”
