THE OLD and the new meet at Geelong’s TAC building where an interpretative display shows the contrasting architectural styles to occupy the site over the last century.
The former Dennys Lascelles Bow Truss building, built in 1910 and demolished controversially decision in 1990, can be seen while under construction – a sharp contrast with the TAC’s glass and steel structure
The bow string truss, similar to the heritage-listed aqueduct at Breakwater, was deemed in such poor condition that it required demolition. When wreckers set about doing the job, however, it found the job wasn’t as easy as predicted.
