Margaret Lupton’s North Geelong garden has transformed before her eyes at the hands of TAFE students over the past two weeks.
“It’s fantastic to see the ideas taking shape every day in the garden,” she said.
Margaret’s son Daniel nominated her for Gordon Institute of TAFE’s backyard blitz after his father Grant died of a brain tumour.
“Since my father passed away last year the backyard has gone into decline,” said Daniel’s nomination for The Gordon Rescue.
“It was dad’s love looking after it and while he was in the middle of improving it a brain tumour hit.”
Prior to Mr Lupton’s diagnosis in 2013, he cared for Margaret for 14 months while she recovered from two major operations and chemotherapy for treat breast cancer.
“I feel I owe a lot of my recovery to Grant,” she said.
“Myself, together with my three sons Daniel, Nick and Luke, plus our family and friends, feel The Gordon Rescue is a tribute to him.”
On Thursday Gordon building and horticulture teams were just days away from unveiling the finished garden.
Rescue project manager Kirsty Quick said the teams were excited about “the big reveal”.
