State Government should officially close a disused rail line in Geelong to remove a public safety hazard while opening up extra space for community organisation, parliament has heard.
Member for Geelong Ian Trezise called on the Public Transport Minister to declare the Fyansford line closed to allow for alternative uses of land in the city.
Mr Trezise wanted a section of line dividing Bell Park Sports Club and under-construction Western Heights Secondary College removed “as quickly as possible”.
The Independent reported last month that Geelong councillor Eddie Kontelj wanted the reserve turned into a path for pedestrians and cyclists.
