Woman’s miracle escape

An Ocean Grove woman has narrowly avoided death after a car struck her on the Bellarine Highway on Monday afternoon.
The 45-year-old woman had parked on the left shoulder of the eastbound lane of the highway, between Bawtree and Curlewis roads, at about 3.20pm.
The woman stepped out of her vehicle and stood on the road when an eastbound car hit her, breaking her leg.
Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Jamie Kahle said the woman was lucky not to have been more seriously injured, or dead.
“If that was a frontal impact it could have been different. That’s a 100km/h zone.”
The driver of the car, a 44-year-old Ocean Grove man, stopped and assisted until emergency services arrived.
An air ambulance airlifted the woman to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.
Geelong Highway Patrol officers examined the scene yesterday and will continue their investigation.
Police urged any witnesses or anyone who saw the woman prior to the crash to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
