Much to do about the Bard

Shakespeare will return at sunset to the Bellarine next month with Essential Theatre staging one of the Bard’s most loved works, Much Ado About Nothing.
The play is a witty, romantic and timeless tale of two pairs of lovers and the people who try to rip them apart.
“Under the setting sun, Leura Park Estate provides a stunning backdrop for this colourful and charming comedy,” said estate’s Lyndsay Sharp.
The play starts with Don Pedro leading his soldiers to Messina after victory in battle, including the dashing young Claudio and the clever wordsmith Benedick.
The city’s governor, Leonato, and his charming daughter Hero greet the soldiers warmly on their arrival.
Leonato’s witty niece Beatrice engages in a merry war of words with Benedick; both proclaiming their scorn for love, marriage and each other.
In contrast, Claudio and Hero meet for the first time and fall instantly in love.
However, the bastard brother of Don Pedro, Don John, devises a meddling plan to mess with the unfolding romance.
Dogberry and Verges, the comical night watchmen, appear just in time, ensuring that good defeats evil.
Ms Sharp said historically tickets for the event sold out fast for the Shakespeare in the Vines series.
“Whether you’re new to the work of the annual Shakespeare in the Vines or a regular audience member, you are guaranteed a very special night”.
Much Ado About Nothing at Leura Park Estate will run for two performances on 10 and 11 February.
The show starts at 7pm, with gates opening at 5pm. After the show, patrons will be able to meet the cast and enjoy live music until late.
Limited tickets cost $45 per person and are available via GPAC at www.gpac.org.au or 5225 1200.
