SEVEN Geelong men have swapped their modesty for money over the next three months as they itch and scratch toward a quarter of a million dollars for charity.
Bradley Smith, Tim ‘Chops’ Sheridan, Matt Cleary, Sean O’Callaghan, Adam Zelley, Daniel Smith and Peter Temple have pledged to ditch their razors for 100 days to raise $100,000 for Leukaemia Foundation.
Mr Smith said the group of Wharf Shed restaurant workmates had already developed “impressive” beards after beginning their fundraiser on November 21.
“We spoke to our boss, Peter, in July about the idea and although we’ll look disheveled throughout the summer months he was happy for us to do it,” Mr Smith said.
The break-out of beards at the restaurant had intrigued diners.
“One table thought the restaurant was Amish when they came in and saw us all with long beards,” Mr Smith laughed.
Mr Temple said the Wharf Shed was collecting $1 donations on top of meal sales and staff tips for the fundraiser until February 28 .
The tally was now around $16,000, he said.
“What if our $100,000 is the $100,000 that gets us over the line and finds a cure?” Mr Temple pondered.
