Surf staff put green thumbs to work for day

Workers at Torquay surf firm Quiksilver have rolled up their sleeves to help a community group green the coast.
Twenty-four Quicksilver employees helped Torquay Landcare Group volunteers plant more than 700 trees last weekend as part of the group’s environmental campaign.
Landcare’s Cherie Mordue was “thrilled” with the help of Quiksilver staff.
“They were excellent,” she said. “I was amazed at how fast they were. They did not stop for a yak – they got straight into it.
“It was also a great opportunity to meet new Quiksilver employees who have come from other surfing beaches and share our passion for improving coastal systems.”
Ms Mordue said they planted salt-resistant trees around Jan Juc Creek, Bells Beach and Point Addis.
Torquay Landcare is a not-for-profit organisation offering environmental support to land owners and other groups.
