Local legends in chance to win clubs $5000

LEGENDS: Cats star Andrew Mackie and Viva Energy Corio refinery environment lead Dawn Conway at the refinery's open day on Sunday.

An unsung volunteer and their club can win $5000 each as part of a new Viva Energy competition with the support of the Geelong Indy.
Viva’s Geelong Refinery will also give away thousands of dollars more to the clubs of 21 other finalists in the new Club Legend competition.
Entry is open to volunteers and role models of all ages at sports clubs across City of Greater Geelong.
As well as the $10,000 shared between the overall winner and their club, the runner-up will win $2000 and the other 20 finalists $1000 each.
Club Legend also includes a $2000 people’s choice award for the wider public to choose their favourite finalist.
Viva Energy will host a Club Legend Awards Dinner to honour all the finalists and winners at Simonds Stadium on 16 October.
The refinery was rapt to give back to the community through the Club Legend award, said general manager Thys Heyns.
“We know from our employees that the region has a proud sporting history with many dedicated volunteers,” he said.
“Given this, we except to receive fantastic applications from this region.
“Viva Energy is excited to be launching the Geelong Refinery Club Legends Award,” Mr Heyns said.
“As active members of the community, we at Viva Energy want to recognise role models in greater Geelong who selflessly volunteer their time and effort to keeping our sports clubs running.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing and sharing the work of these unsung heroes.”
The Indy will run regular stories documenting the progress of the Club Legend competition over the next two months.
Nominations are open now at clublegend.com.au.
