Geelong’s ‘state-of-the-art’ library reopened on Wednesday following repairs to dislodged ceiling panels this week.
City Hall closed the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre on Tuesday for unscheduled maintenance after the panels became dislodged on the landing between levels two and three.
The City’s acting director investment and attraction Roger Grant apologised for the closure.
“The safety of the public and library users is our number one priority,” Mr Grant said.
“We have worked hard to resolve this issue so that library members and the public can get back to enjoying this wonderful facility.”
Construction company Kane, which built the library, conducted a thorough assessment and inspection of the facility to investigate how the panel became dislodged.
The inspection showed that the issue was related to flat ceiling panels. New fixings have been installed to secure the affected panels.
Kane Constructions, the City and WorkSafe conducted a full safety audit to ensure there is no risk to library users.
However, contractors may still be carrying out works in some sections of the library during the coming days, Mr Grant said.
