Bomb scare closes streets at Norlane

A bomb scare forced police to close streets at Norlane this morning.
The Victoria Police bomb squad was called to the house in Norlane after a warrant search revealed a suspicious item at a house on the corner of Robin Avenue and Swallow Crescent.
Streets were closed around the house and police enforced a 100-metre exlusion zone.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the pipe was found to contain black powder.
An X-ray revealed the pipe had no internal mechanism.
Police are investigating how the device came to be on the property.
Residents took to social media to expressed concern about the incident.
“House on the corner of Robin Ave and Swallow Cres … is taped off and streets are blocked off, police have said there is a pipe bomb in the car,” a resident posted on Facebook.
“I live across the road and am not being evacuated at this stage but am choosing to leave, if possible keep away as no-one close by is allowed out there and must be at the back of their house.”
The post included an image showing police tape across a property opposite.
