BELLS Beach’s Ricky Rawson is sharing a jail with Schapelle Corby and The Bali Nine as he prepares to face an Indonesian court on drug charges, according to an Australian Government spokesperson.
The spokesperson said Indonesian authorities moved Mr Rawson to Kerobokan Prison, where the other Australians are serving long drugs-related sentences.
He had spent the previous three weeks in police custody at Denpasar police station, the spokesperson said.
Mr Rawson, a 48-year-old father of two, faces up to 12 years’ prison for drug possession.
Indonesian police arrested him in Seminyak earlier this month, allegedly with two ecstasy pills and .06 grams of methamphetamine.
Mr Rawson told media he was just two days away from returning home after a 10-day fishing trip.
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Mr Rawson had appointed a lawyer and would receive assistance from Australian consular officers.
The Independent reported earlier this month that Denpasar drug squad chief Major Ambariyadi told media that Mr Rawson had admitted using drugs he bought from an unknown person in the Kuta area.
Kerobokan Prison holds about 1000 prisoners including 13 Australians.
Corby was convicted of drug smuggling in 2005. She is scheduled for release in 2024.
The Bali Nine members were arrested at Denpasar Airport in 2005 with 8.3kg of heroin strapped to their bodies.
