A FINAL decision on a route linking Geelong’s ring road to Surf Coast Highway is due in “weeks”, according to a State Government spokesperson.
Bronwyn Perry said an advisory committee report on the route of the proposed 4C link had gone to Planning Minister Matthew Guy.
The committee completed the report after panel hearings in Geelong last month.
Mr Guy had forwarded the report to Department of Planning and Community Development for review, Ms Perry said.
“Once this review has been completed the Minister will consider the details of the report along with the department’s review prior to making a final determination.”
Ms Perry expected Mr Guy to announce his decision in “a couple of weeks”.
The Independent revealed last month that Surf coast Shire, Boral Property Group and Geelong Public Transport Users Association were among the submissions proposing alternate routes for the link.
Armstrong Creek developers, City of Greater Geelong, Department of Sustainability and Environment and Barwon Water supported the proposed alignment immediately south of Geelong-Warrnambool rail line.
Grovedale and Waurn Ponds residents have opposed the route on noise and traffic grounds, arguing it should go down Boundary Road.
