IT’S the chance to perform, rather than just play, that has Belmont High School’s Callum Edwards excited about this year’s Star Search.
Rotary Club of Highton’s premier talent quest for young musicians is open for entries and ready to offer a career boost to a budding musician or vocalist.
“I really wanted to get some experience in performing because I don’t do it a lot,” said Callum, who plays the trombone.
The 17-year-old year 11 student has already played in the esteemed South Street eisteddfod and with Geelong Concert Band was looking forward to the opportunity to go solo.
“I’m still deciding on what to play. I like a lot of classical but I might do something a bit jazzy to make it a bit more interesting for the audience.”
Audition registrations for vocalists and instruments have opened at starsearch.net.au.
This year’s Star Search grand final will offer $5000 in prizemoney.
St Luke’s Uniting Church, Highton, will host vocal auditions on 29 April and instrumentalists on 6 May.
Star Search’s grand final will be at Sacred Heart College’s McAuley Hall on 29 May.
