An award-winning American actor will bring his Groucho Marx tribute show to Drysdale’s Potato Shed this weekend.
Frank Ferrante has put on his Marx show for America’s Public Broadcasting Services as well as at top venues in New York and London.
The New York Times has described Ferrante as “the greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx’s material”.
The show’s promoters said Marx’s son Arthur “discovered” Ferrante while still a drama student in California.
The pair put together Ferrante’s Groucho: A Life in Revue which won a Theatre World Award in 1987.
Ferrante’s “fast-paced 90 minutes of hilarity” featured him on stage as the legendary comedian alongside a pianist.
“The two-act comedy consists of the best Groucho one-liners, anecdotes and songs including Hooray for Captain Spalding, and Lydia, the Tattooed Lady,” the promoters said.
The Potato Shed audience would “literally become part of the show” as Ferrante ad-libbed his way throughout the performance in “grand Groucho style”.
“The Potato Shed theatre will be set up cabaret style with tabled seating. You are invited to bring your own hamper with the delicacies of your choosing and purchase drinks at our fully-licensed bar.”
The show begins at the Potato Shed at 2pm on Sunday with doors open from 1.30pm.
