Yesterday, when the shoot began at Barwon Heads

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

AN ABC-TV commissioned series based on John Marsden novel Tomorrow, When the War Began filmed scenes around Barwon Heads bridge this week.
Ambience Entertainment’s six-part drama has financing from the ABC, Screen Australia, Film Victoria and Ingenious Investments.
The television adaptation follows a 2010 theatrical release.
ABC head of children’s TV Deirdre Brennan said the series would bring Marsden’s powerful story to life within a new television format.
“Tomorrow, When the War Began has connected to so many Australians since the book was first published in 1993,” she said.
“More than 3 million copies later, these are characters we know and love – the dilemmas they face are compelling and have never been more relevant.”
The high-production, dramatic-action series is set amid an invasion of Australia, with a group of teenage friends returning from a remote camping trip only to find themselves thrust into the middle of a war no one saw coming.
The group overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds and discovers that in order to save the things they hold most precious they must be prepared to sacrifice everything.
The production adds to the opportunities for local film and television production, with Geelong West director Kelly Dolen planning a full length feature film, Bound, produced entirely in Geelong.
