ROAD safety has literally become child’s play at Ocean Grove.
The town’s toy library and Boorai family centre have used a grant to buy educational toys for lessons about staying safe around roads and traffic.
The grant was a “fantastic” Traffic Accident Commission (TAC) initiative, said councillor Kylie Fisher.
The toy library used the $3000 to buy roadwork signs, a pedestrian crossing, trikes, dress-ups and Leggo for safety messages.
The main lessons will be teaching children to look in all directions for oncoming vehicles and working out when to safely cross roads.
The toys will be available to children attending the Boorai Centre, its Wednesday playgroup and the toy library.
Councillor Jan Farrell said the aim was to help children “stop, look, listen and think” around roads.
“It’s been great to watch the children use the toys and see them learn road safety in a fun environment,” she said.
