Former golf land set to go on sale

TOM BENNETT
ALLOTMENTS at a controversial redevelopment of the former Geelong Golf Club will finally go on sale next month, according to a spokesperson for developer Links Living.
Ron Smith said the 320 lots would be available for sale from October 8 at prices between “the low 100,000s to the 400,000s”.
Construction work would begin before Christmas to provide a major boost to the city’s housing industry, he said.
The announcement follows years of wrangling over the site between residents, council and the developers. Links Living and council reached agreement a month ago on issues standing in the way of the project, including provision of footpaths and roads.
The development will include a nine-hole golf course and an indoor-outdoor lawn bowls facility.
Links Living accepted expressions of interest in allotments during a pre-registration process before the public release but said more prospective buyers had come forward since council granted approval.
Links Living acquired the 45-hectare site eight years ago after the former Geelong Golf Club ran into financial difficulties.
