The Stiffys bubble up

By CHERIE DONNELLAN

THEY wear sailor outfits and swig champagne.
Best friends Jason Leigh and Adam Stagg are also responsible for a number of odd You-Tube videos in which they literally shout advice about being cool, how to talk to girls and performing kick-flips.
They also play music as The Stiffys.
Leigh explained the band’s popularity to the Independent ahead of the The Stiffy’s 29 August gig at Beav’s Bar.
“Last time we were in Geelong we played at The Nash and about 300 ladies showed up and we crowd-surfed at the end,” he enthused.
“Geelong is our favourite place in the world. We had a incredible time there, particularly waking up in the McDonald’s car park.
“This gig’s going to be super great.”
Leigh said Geelong was part of The Stiffys 13-stop national Champagne tour.
He described champagne as the band’s “inspiration”.
“We like to have a few bottles, get together and express ourselves.”
Leigh explained the band’s penchant for sailor outfits as a “champagne-influenced decision” that demonstrated how he and Stagg were “really cool guys”.
Leigh confided that he and Stagg put a lot of practice into playing the bass and drums.
“When in the music business you’re making all this money, so you’ve got a lot of hours in the day [to practice],” he said, tongue-in-cheek.
“The thing about the music business is that you’ve got to stand out.”
