GROUNDED: The crane at work in Myers St.

A GIANT metal crane soaring over Geelong’s Myers St has been a dogman’s dogsbody lugging massive weights skyward for six months in a $65 million St John of God Hospital upgrade.
The 35-metre, cage-like structure has been hoisting materials including 10-tonne pre-cast panels since February as a vivid visual landmark on the CBD skyline.
The hospital upgrade is 60 per cent complete, with completion set for April.
New facilities will include a private emergency department, three operating theatres, 64 inpatient beds and three and half levels of underground parking.
A hospital spokesperson said the crane was brought to ground last weekend.
“The crane was going all day every day. It was a source of great interest for visitors, patients and staff.”
