Frugal Friday: Daddy’s looking cool in bargains

Elissa Friday

WHEN a men’s store is named Blue Suede, it’s impossible to just drive past. So while I was in Highton I had to pop in.
It’s not always easy thinking of gifts for the guys at this time of year, but I spotted lots of accessories and great items in here.
From the coolest looking shoes in a variety of colours to others which were a definite conversation starter if you were to get stuck.
Actually come to think of it, I began to wish they were in women’s as well, because some of the Chelsea-style ankle boots could only be described as gorge, especially the suede ones.
So I decided to focus on gifts, because let’s face it, shoes are a hard one as a gift, as he would really need to try them on.
Just let him know for future reference where he can check out some great shoes.
Whether he’s a golfer or not, I found this funky looking pen set made to look like mini golf clubs, beautifully presented in a black box for $24. They would definitely induce a smile on the receivers face and be of good use too.
I spotted what could only be described as a melting clock for $29, so quirky it would look great on a kitchen or office shelf.
Ties are always a good, traditional pressie choice; you can’t have enough if he wears them daily.
I saw some lovely red and blue ones for $29 while the retro style bow tie – quite an in look if you keep some of the rest of the outfit in theme – was just $29.95.
Why not throw in a colourful quality pair of $18 socks too? They look great when he sits down and you get to see a hint of his fun side through his patterned socks.
I spotted a huge selection of stylish, brightly coloured and heavily patterned shirts on a rail and without hesitation picked my favourite to try on. I wasn’t taking size into account; I just loved the pattern.
Dress the shirts up or down, they will definitely turn a few heads in a good way. Priced around $100, they are also a great gift idea if you decide to spend a bit more, which is okay from time to time.
I found plenty more items in the store and it became a breeze finding potential gifts for him.
Check it out, and happy shopping at Blue Suede.
