FINALLY FRIDAY: When Aussies ruled

By MICHELLE HERBISON

ENGLISH country singing star of the 1960s Frank Ifield will join Aussie Keith Potger of The Seekers fame live on stage in February.
GPAC’s drama theatre will play host to the duo for two shows on 1 February, bringing Geelong crowds their stories, songs and historic visual imagery from a bygone era.
Ifield and Potger will relive the days when time went slower, music was sweeter and the Saturday night dance was a massive social event.
In the 1960s, Ifield hits such as I Remember You, Love Sick Blues and Wayard Wind dominated the Australian radio-waves, while Australian artists gained exposure on UK charts.
As a founding member of The Seekers, Potger alongside vocalist Judith Durham was responsible for top 10 hits such as I’ll Never Find Another You, A World Of Our Own and Moringtown Ride.
The Seekers became a household name, continuing to tour for more than 50 years to their adoring fans.
The Geelong shows will involve Ifield and Potger reminiscing on their music careers, telling stories from behind the scenes at a time “when selling a million copies of a record meant a million copies of vinyl and screaming fans lined up outside record stores just to be the first to get their copy”.
Mo Award and Frank Ifield International Spur Award winners Nicki Gillis and Wayne Horsburgh will join Ifield and Potger on stage following their own UK tours.
Tickets are available at gpac.org.au or by phoning 5225 1200.
