Rock hits ute, hurts passenger on bypass

TWO men were lucky to escape “a more-serious” accident after a rock thrown from a Geelong overpass smashed into their ute on Wednesday morning, according to police.
The rock smashed one of the ute’s windows, injuring the 29-year-old male passenger’s left arm.
The 56-year-old driver was unharmed.
Sergeant Ian Graham said the ute was heading south on Geelong’s ring road about 7am when the rock was thrown from the Pigdons Road overpass.
Sgt Graham said police believed the incident could have been a “targeted attack”.
“It was relatively quiet on the road at the time and it’s fortunate this did not cause a more-serious accident,” he said.
The driver was in the left lame and able to pull straight over.”
Sgt Graham said police were hunting “those responsible”.
“Rock throwing is an extremely dangerous practice and the offenders will be dealt with accordingly.”
Sgt Graham said the passenger’s arm received “minor injuries” when the rock shattered the window glass.
Police asked anyone who had information or who had seen people in the vicinity of the overpass around the time of the incident to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
