Peninsula choir in harmony with need to express musical yearnings

THE BELLARINE Peninsula hills are alive with the sound of music after the formation of a choir.
Members of Bellarine Community Choir are preparing more performances after wowing an audience at a recent inaugural event.
Choir founder and music director Jenny Brown said the group formed about a month ago after residents displayed demand for a music group in the community.
“A number of people inquired at Springdale Neighbourhood Centre in Drysdale about a choir,” she said.
“People wanted to sing in a group that did performances because they were involved with singing and on-stage performances before they moved to the area and there wasn’t an outlet for them here.”
Ranging in age from their mid-20s to 70-plus, Bellarine Community Choir’s 32 members come from all points of the peninsula.
Ms Brown said the choir sang four-part harmonies to all types of music.
The group was warming up for its next performance, at Drysdale’s Potato Shed on December 5, she said.
Planning was also underway for a Christmas carols event and a performance at January’s Eco Music Festival.
Ms Brown said the choir was still on the lookout for new members of all ages.
She asked anyone interested in joining to phone her on 5251 2676 or Springdale Neighbourhood Centre on 5253 1960.
