GREG Lewis’ family has served with the armed forces for the last century or so and he’s keen to follow tradition.
An avid glider, aviation buff and air cadet, Greg has his sights set squarely on an airborne future although for the time being, at age 16, he’s working through the schooling necessaries.
But his heart’s in the right spot and, with an ear tuned to history and the physical and mental fallout of armed conflict, he’s stepping out next month to raise money for a good cause.
Greg’s planning a 100km footslog from Point Nepean on the Mornington Peninsula to Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance to raise money for charity Soldier On.
“I know that many good men in the course of duty are impacted by the environment in which they serve,” Greg said.
“My own great grandfather was affected by his experiences during the Second World War, he had no access to help on his return to Australia.“My own small contribution simply says, ‘I want to help make a difference’.”
A student at St Ignatius College, Greg lives at Highton. He decided on the 100km trek as part of the Anzac centenary and a neat way to help the country’s wounded warriors.
