GLBTI OK by COGG on IDAHOBIT

GAY AND transgender flags have flown over City of Greater Geelong’s headquarters for the first time in support of various sexualities.
Council hoisted the flags to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
Councillor Jan Farrell said the flying of the flags sent a “strong message” to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) communities.
“We need to make a special effort to acknowledge each part of the GLBTI acronym (because) the needs and experiences of each person are different,” she said.
“Trans and gender-diverse people experience much higher levels of discrimination and abuse, resulting in poorer health outcomes.
“This is why we are working in Geelong to reduce this discrimination and to celebrate the diversity in our community.
“The raising of the trans flag is one small way we are showing our support.”
